Pomander
A pomander can be hung in a wardrobe for several months:
1 firm-skinned orange
whole cloves
1 teaspoon orris root powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wash and dry the orange and stud it evenly all over with the fresh cloves. Place the orris root powder and teh cinnamon in a brown paper bag with the orange and shake the bag to coat the orange. Store the bag in a dark place for a month, then remove the orange and brush it free of powder. Tie a ribbon around the orange and finish with a loop at the top.
Herb and Lavender Potpourri
30gr lavender flowers
30gr dried spearmint
30gr dried marjoram
30gr dried oregano flowers
2 tablespoons orris root
2 tablespoons lavender essential oil
Mix teh ingredients together well, then place the mixture in a plastic bag for 2 weeks to mature. Shake the bag regularly. Place the potpourri to an ornamental bowl.
Lavender Bag
The essential oil present in lavender kills the germs and is fragrant. Put lavender sachets or bags in drawer to prevent their contents from becoming musty. This bag will retain its scent longer if you keep the lavender stalks on.
lavender in full bloom
newspaper or brown paper
muslin or fine cotton
ribbon
Cut the lavender and spread the stems out to dry on newspaper, either on the sun or in another warm place. Cut the fabric to the size and shape required and stitch into a simple bag shape. When the lavender is dry, insert a bunch into the bag so that stems stick out of the opening. Close the opening with hand stitching or length of ribbon. Trim the stalks to a length of 5cm.
