When people think of decorating their bedroom or trying to improve it they feel it’s going to cost them a lot of money. This is far from the case though. There are plenty of little things you can do to make your bedroom look and feel better. Here are some cheap and effective tips for a better bedroom.
Improve the Smell
Candles may not be very surprising but they are great for creating a good atmosphere in a room. They are also good for keeping your room smelling nice. No matter how great your room looks if there’s a funky smell no one is going to like being in there for very long. If you’ve got pets you can’t neglect the air freshener in your room and a lovely scented candle is the best way to improve the smell. Not to mention the sensual atmosphere that candle light provides when you turn the lights down.
It’s the Small Things
Buying a few quirky things can really add some personality to your room. So head on down to the local flea market or thrift store and find something weird and fun for your room. They are small and silly little things that make your room a more fun place to be. Some vases are a good idea. They’re even better if you can put flowers in them as well. Speaking of flowers…

Bring in the Colour
One of the quickest ways to revitalise your room is adding a rug, or replacing an old one. Rugs are also really cozy and provide a lot of colour for a room. If you make it a bold colour then you make a strong statement too. Avoid going with the more neutral colours that you typically see in a bedroom. Get something off the wall like a bright orange. The more colour there is in your room the better. Add a rug, get some flowers, and find some colourful artwork.
Get Longer Curtains
Do you want to add a dramatic flair to your bedroom? One great way to do that is to buy curtains that are longer than your window. In fact to make a really dramatic statement in your room buy curtains that are longer and wider than your window. Get curtains that extend from above your window to the floor and reach out a little farther than your window. Framing your window with these curtains by opening them just enough to reach the edge of the window looks really dramatic.
Replace Art with Mirrors
While using art is a great way to add some colour and life to your room you can do the same thing with mirrors. Mirrors are also cheaper than paintings and they make the room look bigger. Think about how large a hall of mirrors felt as a kid. The same effect can be applied to your room. Finding really decorative mirrors with artistic frames make for a better effect. Aim them at windows and doors to really open up the room.
Use the Right Colour Scheme
One of the best ways to get the most out of your room without spending too much is to use a fitting colour scheme. Using blue and white creates a coastal calm and relaxing atmosphere for your bedroom. Use a subtle wallpaper and apply it to the wall behind the bed to create a focal point. Then use slimline shelves to create some storage space. Keep everything a calming blue and a pure white to make the most out of the natural light reaching your room and create a bedroom you can truly relax in.
The bedroom is a pretty big part of your house, even if it’s physically small. It’s where you spend a lot of your day. It needs to be something that looks and feels right to you. You don’t need to spend too much money doing this either. Buy small things that add some flavour to your room, create a dramatic flair with mirrors and curtains, and use a colour scheme that brings out the right feelings you need.
